A Tiny Hand-Woven Basket for the Tea Table

This isn't a large kitchen fruit bowl — it's a small, low basket made to sit on a tea table, a desk corner, or a bedside tray. Woven by hand from thin bamboo strips in a tight hexagonal pattern and finished with natural lacquer in warm brown tones, it holds the little things you want close at hand: dried fruit, nuts, tea snacks, wrapped candy, keys, or a single cake of tea.

It stands on four splayed bamboo legs, lifted just off the surface so the weave is visible from every angle and the table underneath stays clear.

Three Styles, Same Weave

  • Round, Open — Honey Brown: the lightest tone, about 5.5 in across. An open top for fruit and snacks you reach for often.
  • Square, Open — Walnut Brown: a deep dark finish, about 4.7 in across. Sits neatly on a desk for clips, rings and other small things.
  • Round, Lidded — Caramel Brown: about 5.5 in across and 3.3 in tall, with a hand-woven herringbone lid that lifts off. Keeps dust off tea cakes and snacks; it also holds a small teapot or tea tools.

Size — These Are Small, Please Check

  • Round open (Honey): 5.5 in top diameter (14 cm), 4.7 in base (12 cm), 2.6 in high (6.5 cm)
  • Square open (Walnut): 4.7 in across the top (12 cm), 4.3 in base (11 cm), 2.4 in high (6 cm)
  • Round lidded (Caramel): 5.5 in top diameter (14 cm), 4.7 in base (12 cm), 3.3 in high (8.5 cm)

Each one is a tabletop piece, about the width of a hand. If you're after a large centerpiece fruit bowl, this is not it.

How It's Made

  • Hand-woven from mature mountain bamboo strips in a tight hexagonal weave
  • Carbonized and coated with natural lacquer for a deep, even tone and a smooth, wipeable surface
  • Thick bent-bamboo rim keeps the opening true; the lid is woven in a herringbone pattern
  • Four legs with a cross-braced bamboo base, so it sits level and stays put
  • Joints are pinned and tied with bamboo — no plastic fasteners

Ways to Use It

  • Dried fruit, nuts, dates and tea snacks on a gongfu tea table
  • Whole fruit with skin — cherries, tangerines, plums
  • A wrapped tea cake, tea tools or a small teapot inside the lidded style
  • Keys, rings and small everyday things by the door or on a desk
  • A quiet styling piece on shelves, consoles and altar tables

Good to Know

Made for dry foods and whole fruit with skin. The woven sides are open, so line it with a small cloth or paper for loose or sticky food. It is not intended for wet food or liquids, and the lidded style is not an airtight container — the lid keeps dust off, it doesn't seal.

Wipe with a dry or barely damp cloth and don't soak it; keep it dry and indoors. Because every basket is handmade from natural bamboo, weave tension, bamboo nodes, finish tone and small joint repairs vary slightly from piece to piece. That's the character of handwork, not a defect — no two are exactly alike.

Questions

How big is each basket?
Round open and round lidded are about 5.5 in across the top (14 cm) and 2.6 / 3.3 in high; the square one is about 4.7 in across (12 cm) and 2.4 in high. They are small tabletop pieces about the width of a hand — dimensions are shown on the product photos, so please check before ordering.

What's the difference between the three styles?
The Honey is round, open and light brown; the Walnut is square, open and dark brown; the Caramel is round, deeper, and comes with a woven lid for keeping dust off tea and snacks.

Does the lid seal the basket?
No. The lid rests on the rim and keeps dust off, but it is not an airtight seal and won't keep fresh food for longer. Use it for tea cakes, dry snacks and tea tools rather than perishables.

What is the finish, and is it safe for food?
The bamboo is finished with natural lacquer, the traditional coating used on bamboo tea ware. We recommend it for dry foods and whole fruit with skin, and lining it with cloth or paper for anything loose or sticky. It is not made for wet or liquid food.

Can it hold fresh fruit?
Whole fruit with skin — cherries, tangerines, plums — is fine. Cut fruit, salads and anything wet or drippy are not, since the weave is open and the basket shouldn't sit damp.

How do I care for it?
Wipe with a dry or barely damp cloth, keep it dry and out of long direct sun, and never soak it or put it in a dishwasher. Stored dry, a lacquered bamboo basket lasts for years.
